All Spanish regions agreed to order the closure of nightclubs and to ban smoking outdoors when social distancing is not possible, as part of a tranche of new restrictions to tackle a spike in COVID-19 cases.
Health Minister Salvador Illa announced 11 measures to contain the virus that he said had been agreed unanimously with his 17 regional counterparts at a meeting Friday. Illa added that regional governments, which have powers over health policy, could take stronger action if they wanted.
The measures aim to slow an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases detected in Spain, with 2,943 new cases reported Thursday.
