Uber Expands into Holiday Travel Market

uber

BNR – The American transportation conglomerate, Uber Technologies, renowned for dominating the cab business, is planning to dominate holiday travelling. The company plans to expand the service they provide through their mobile application.

CEO Aims for Travel Dominance

Chief Executive Officer of Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi, talked about his ambitious goal to make the firm the best in travel. Khosrowshahi’s speech came as the company announced its first-ever international operations earnings.

This comes as Uber reported a record-high number of travels during the spring.

The company stated that nearly 25mln travels were conducted on the app per day on average. This figure is only for the April-June period. It is a 22 per cent yearly rise, as travel in North America recovers from the Coronavirus disaster.

This amounts to almost 2.3bln overall travels during the current quarter.

Khosrowshahi stated that the rebound in the business had opened the door wide for Uber to expand in the market.

He said that this is especially the case in the United Kingdom, where travel firms are huge as opposed to the United States market.

Uber air trips, economy class, started rolling out in the United Kingdom in May this year. The company’s app also featured bookings for trains since 2022.

New Uber Features Impact Cab Service Demand

The new featured services have shown resulted in decreased demand for the company’s cab service. The CEO said that this had been feared, but expected nonetheless.

Khosrowshahi was the former CEO of the Internet booking company Expedia. He became CEO of Uber in 2017 with plans to save the company from scandals over privacy and harassment.

The new boss has pushed the firm to enhance its services while paying extra attention to discipline. He employed an array of measures, including dismissals, which he said worked.

Uber’s cab business sustained heavy losses when travel took a hard hit during the Covid-19 lockdown. It also had other logistic issues, such as a lack of drivers. However, the company grew strong again, with its food ordering and delivery service, Uber Eats, staying solid.
