NEW DELHI: The Nifty Bank index closed 1.02 per cent up at 26,986.80 on Wednesday with most of its components closing in the green.
Shares of HDFC Bank (up 2 per cent) , Bank of Baroda (up 1.99 per cent) , Punjab National Bank (up 1.37 per cent) and ICICI Bank (up 0.88 per cent) stood among the top performers in the index.
Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 0.78 per cent) , Axis Bank (up 0.73 per cent) and State Bank of India (up 0.38 per cent) too closed higher.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index closed up 66.35 points at 10,729.85 while the BSE Sensex closed 179.79 points higher at 35,649.94.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 33 shares closed in the green, while 16 shares closed in the red.
Shares of YES Bank, SAIL, Indian Oil Corp, Bank of Baroda, BHEL, SBI, BEL, Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Vedanta, ONGC, Zee Entertainment, ICICI Bank and NTPC stood among the most traded securities on the NSE.
