Abdullah Amer Al-Sawaha, on one hand, and British Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Kwasi Kwarteng, on the other, on Thursday discussed cooperation between the two countries in the field of the space economy.

The meeting comes as part of Kwarteng’s visit to kingdom to enhance cooperation between the two sides in various fields.

The two sides stressed the importance of stimulating the participation of the two countries’ private sector in the area of the space economy and promoting investment in developing human capabilities, during the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by the SSC president-designate, Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi.

Al-Tamimi said that the meeting comes within the framework of the SSC’s endeavor to build effective international partnerships in this field so as to enhance the commission’s role and support its steps toward achieving its strategic goals for the Saudi space sector.

Saudi Arabia’s space economy

He said that the space sector represents a national priority that would contribute to the Kingdom’s transformation toward an innovation-based and space economy.

Kwarteng’s visit also seeks to attract investments, open new markets that can serve as a source of economic diversification and create new jobs and make the Kingdom a leader in the field of the space economy, Al-Tamimi said.

Saudi Arabia make the space sector a major contributor to its prosperity and leadership as part of its Vision 2030.

Early this month, Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the first Saudi program on scholarship in order to achieve its goals in the space sector.

On Friday, the kingdom held a workshop with more than 80 British companies working in the fields of innovation, technology, space, research and development; the investment opportunities available for investors; and the competitive advantages that the Kingdom enjoys as a digital and logistical platform and a hub for connecting continents.
