Qatari Ministry of Commerce opens 23 new factories in Q1

Doha, (Business News Report)|| The Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that 23 new factories were opened and 920 products were launched in the local markets, during the first quarter of this year.

The ministry indicated that 1,550 new workers were absorbed into these factories during the same period.

Meanwhile, the Qatari Ministry of Commerce stated in statements on Twitter that the contribution of the manufacturing sector amounted to 15 billion riyals during the fourth quarter of last year.

The data indicated that the value of exports of local origin reached 101 billion riyals during the last quarter of 2021.
The ministry said that last year, 60 factories were launched and 3,349 workers were employed, noting that 845 products of local origin were launched during the first quarter of 2021.

The contribution of the manufacturing sector to the gross domestic product reached 57 billion riyals last year, while the value of exports of local origin reached 307 billion riyals, the ministry said.

The industrial sector achieved 6% growth during the year 2020, in conjunction with the progress made in projects to develop the small and medium industries zone.

Meanwhile, the number of factories reached 927, with investments in the sector amounting to approximately 263 billion riyals, with a growth rate of 0.4% compared to 2019.

Qatar is working to establish complemented mechanisms to enhance and raise its strategic stockpile.

The state, represented by the concerned authorities, launched several initiatives during the recent period to facilitate the launch of industrial projects, including the “own a factory within 72 hours” initiatives and raising the percentage of purchase of products.

These initiatives resulted in a real Qatari industrial renaissance that continues to make its way, and this was evident by the announcement of important industrial projects in many sectors, especially the food industries, which the State of Qatar attaches exceptional importance to achieving self-sufficiency and ensuring food security, which has become a paramount necessity.

It was also clear that many of the projects and factories that were established and inaugurated doubled our production and contributed greatly to providing the needs of the local markets and providing them with high quality products and a great ability to compete with their imported counterparts.

Meanwhile, the high demand by citizens and residents for national products reflects the great societal awareness of the importance of encouraging national industry during this important stage.
