Qatar Petroleum

Qatar Petroleum said that it has signed a major contract with Técnicas Reunidas engineering, procurement and construction company to carry out the project of the expansion of the North Field.

Técnicas Reunidas specializes in the field of general contracting and is headquartered in the Spanish capital, Madrid. It also specializes in providing engineering and construction services to the oil and gas sector.

Qatar Petroleum stated that Técnicas Reunidas will undertake all the engineering and construction work required to expand the storage and loading facilities required for liquid products of condensate, propane and butane.

Técnicas Reunidas will also expand the import facilities for mono-ethylene glycol in Ras Laffan Industrial City, and other facilities and pipelines serving the North Field expansion project, according to Qatar Petroleum.

The new facilities will be used to handle liquid products from the four new lines of the Northeast LNG project, which are scheduled to become operational before the end of 2025.

These facilities will also support the two new LNG production trains in the North South Field project.

The Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, said that this contract for engineering, procurement and construction works constitutes a major part of the North Field expansion project, which in turn constitutes an important tributary to contribute to the development of Qatar’s large natural gas resources.

It also strengthens its position as the largest producer of liquefied natural gas in the world, according to Al Kaabi.

Important step

The award of the contract is the culmination of the initial engineering and design work that began in early 2018, and another important step in fulfilling Qatar Petroleum’s commitment to significantly increasing the country’s LNG production capacity.

When completed, the North East Field project will raise Qatar’s production capacity of liquefied natural gas from 77 million tons per year to 110 million tons per year. The South North Field project will raise the production capacity from 110 to 126 million tons per year.

Al-Kaabi pointed out that the Northeast Field project, which has a capacity of 32 million tons per year, is the largest liquefied natural gas project ever implemented.

He pointed out that all the activities of the expansion project are going well, and according to the established plan, so that the first shipment of liquefied natural gas from the expansion project will be delivered at the end of 2025.
