NEW DELHI: In line with the BSE Midcap index, smallcap index too was outpacing benchmark Sensex in Tuesday's trade.
The BSE Smallcap index was trading nearly 1 per cent up at 17,576 around 10:50 am (IST), while the BSE Sensex was 0.26 per cent up at 34,007. The NSE Nifty50 index was 0.36 per cent up at 10,459 around the same time.
Shares of Jaiprakash Power Ventures (up 15.15 per cent), Future Consumer (up 12.67 per cent), Waterbase (up 10 per cent), Future Enterprises (up 9.96 per cent), Future Enterprises (up 9.35 per cent), Rushil Decor (up 9.18 per cent) and B L Kashyap & Sons (up 7.25 per cent) were the top gainers in the BSE Smallcap index.
On the other hand, GTL Infrastructure (down 10 per cent), Gujarat NRE Coke (down 6.73 per cent), M M Forgings (down 5.65 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Electrosteel Steels (down 4.98 per cent), Gitanjali Gems (down 4.98 per cent), Pincon Spirit (down 4.92 per cent) and Gammon India (down 4.91 per cent) were among the top losers in the smallcap index.
Positive macroeconomic data and appreciating rupee, coupled with gains in bank, financial and oil stocks lifted Sensex and Nifty up.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 37 were trading in the green, while 13 were in red.
State Bank of India, Wipro and Axis Bank were the top gainers in the Sensex index, each gaining over 2 per cent.
