NEW DELHI: Losses in shares of Idea Cellular (down 2.16 per cent), Tata Communications (down 0.38 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (down 0.08 per cent) dragged the BSE Telecom index a little lower in Monday's trade.
The BSE Telecom index was trading 0.08 per cent down at 1,658 around 11:30 am (IST).
However, shares of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 4.95 per cent), Himachal Futuristic Communications (up 3.21 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 2.39 per cent), GTL (up 2.02 per cent), Reliance Communications (up 1.44 per cent) and Tejas Networks (up 1.42 per cent) were trading with gains in the telecom index around that time.
Benchmark BSE Sensex was 363 points up at 34,956, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 97 points up at 10,778.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 35 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.
HDFC, ICICI Bank and Tata Steel were leading the Sensex index.
Shares of IndusInd Bank, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation and Hero MotoCorp were seen under selling pressure.
Hathway Cable, IDFC Bank, RattanIndia Power, YES Bank, IFCI, HDIL, Reliance Communications, GMR Infra and IDFC were among the most traded stocks.
