Naima Lowe, a leftist professor who was at the center of the scandal that took place earlier this year at Evergreen State College, has received a $240,000 settlement with the college over alleged acts of discrimination.
Naima Lowe, a media arts professor at Evergreen State College, has resigned from her position and accepted a $240,000 settlement for an allegedly hostile work environment and acts of discrimination. Lowe was considered to be one of the faculty members behind the protests that resulted in progressive biology professor Bret Weinstein having to teach his class sessions off campus for fear for his own safety.
“I am writing to let you know that our faculty colleague Naima Lowe has elected to resign her position at the College,” Provost Jennifer Drake wrote Monday in an email to Evergreen staff. Before concluding the email, Drake praised Lowe for her work promoting “feminist and queer theory, race, and decolonial studies.”
During the chaos at Evergreen State, Lowe explained to her white friends that if they weren’t paying her “cash money,” that she would not talk to them. “To my white friends,” she wrote. “You’re on notice. If you’re not paying me cash money, working on an impeachment plan, or burning a cop shop to the ground, we don’t have much to say to each other.”
In a video from 2015 that surfaced online during the campus controversy, Lowe argued that all white people are racist. “White supremacy…lives and breathes within every single white person standing here right now. I refuse to shut my mouth and let white people set this agenda,” she yelled, adding that “the white gays, the white middle-class assimilationist motherf***ing gays, took over the [gay] movement with their assimilationist goals.”

Users on social media expressed their displeasure with Lowe’s settlement with Evergreen. Bret Weinstein called Lowe’s settlement an “intersectional shakedown.” “Naima Lowe garnered 240k through bigotry and the weaponizing of stigma. The precedent is a dangerous one,” he wrote.

Yale professor Nicholas Christakis, who found himself at the center of one of the first “social justice run amuck” protest stories to go viral, also chimed in. “We have a new definition of chutzpah! Prof Naima Lowe, utterly racist herself, and so responsible for hateful acts at @EvergreenStCol accused *others* of ‘discrimination and creating a hostile work environment.,'” he wrote.
