It can reach speeds of 190mph and is expected to cost a cool £165,000.

Lamborghini has unveiled what it calls the world's first "super sports utility vehicle", the Urus.

The Italian super-car maker says it wants to double its sales with the release of the vehicle, which can travel from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

Lamborghini chief executive Stefano Domenicali told Sky News: "It's a new Lamborghini but with the same characteristics in terms of performance, design and technology that you can find in the so-called normal Aventador.

"Our target is in one year and a half, we're going to double the volume of this company.

"We need to make sure our focus will also stay on the super sport model. But the dimension of the market for SUV is huge.

"We are entering new markets that will be very important for the future of our growth."

Mr Domenicali, the former head of Ferrari's Formula One team, said he did not believe the company was late to the SUV market despite Porsche, Jaguar and Bentley already having their own versions.

"I cannot say that we are late. We are spot on time with the right product," he said.

Following Lamborghini's tradition of bovine-related names, the Urus is named after a wild ancestor of domestic cattle.

The five-seater SUV features a 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine and has 650-horsepower.

More from Business

Prices for the Urus, excluding taxes, start at £131,500, with the first customers due to receive their vehicles by spring 2018.

It is Lamborghini's first SUV since the LM002, which it built between 1986 and 1993.
