Kuwait, (Business News Report )| The board of directors of Jazeera Airways, listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange, agreed with Airbus to buy 28 planes worth $3.4 billion.

Jazeera Airways said in a statement to the Kuwait Stock Exchange, on Sunday, that the board of directors approved the purchase of 20 A320neo aircraft, and eight A321neo aircraft.

The statement added that the actual date for receiving the new planes will be determined at a later time.

Jazeera Airways stated that the board of directors agreed to sign an agreement to purchase two CFM LEAP-A26 engines at a value of $32.2 million (9.8 million dinars), in order to support the company’s operations.

The company stated that there is no financial impact at the present time, and it is expected that both agreements will have a positive impact on the company’s operations in the medium and long term.

In a separate context, Qatar Airways has taken legal action against the European aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, due to problems with the surface of one of its aircraft models.

Reuters reported that Qatar Airways has started proceedings to sue the European company in a British court.

The agency pointed out that this step comes as part of Qatar’s efforts to try to resolve a dispute over surface damage to the A350 aircraft.

Meanwhile, Qatar Airways confirmed that all its attempts to reach a constructive solution with Airbus regarding the existence of persistent problems related to the surface of the A-350 aircraft, failed.

Qatar Airways said that these problems represented in the deterioration of the surface of its aircraft negatively affect it.

Airbus indicated in a report on its expectations for the coming period, which is that the demand for the acquisition of new  aircraft will not be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The European group is counting on replacing fleets with aircraft that emit lower levels of carbon dioxide.

It also said in its new market forecast at the opening of the Dubai Airshow, that the demand for new aircraft will reach about 39,000 new passenger and freight aircraft by 2040.

This estimate is in line with previous forecasts issued by Airbus in September 2019 before the spread of the Coronavirus that stated at the time that the demand for new aircraft would reach 39,210 aircraft over the next two decades.
