NEW DELHI: Domestic equity market slipped for a second straight session on Tuesday, following weak global cues after the US and China reignited trade war worries.

The BSE Sensex closed 261 points, or 0.74 per cent, down at 35286.74, while NSE Nifty settled 89.40 points, or 0.83 per cent, down at 10,710.

As many as 26 stocks in the 30-share index Sensex closed in the red, with Vedanta falling 3.55 per cent, followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (2.23 per cent) and Adani Ports (2 per cent).

On the other hand, ITC, ONGC, HDFC Bank and HDFC gained between 0.11 per cent and 0.76 per cent.

“Stock market in India started on a flat note and turned weak in response to weak trend in the global markets, as trade spat between the US and China intensified. Persistent selling of Indian equities by foreign institutional investors also dampened investor sentiment,” said Abhijeet Dey, Senior Fund Manager-Equities, BNP Paribas Mutual Fund.

Bulk deals were seen in Liberty Shoes, Jaiprakash Associates and Infibeam Incorporation on the National Stock Exchange.

Here is a list of all bulk deals on NSE and BSE from Tuesday's session.

BSE Bulk Deals

In forex market, rupee dipped to near one-month low against the dollar, tracking losses in global equity markets, as traders were cautious due to escalating trade frictions.

In Asia, Japanese shares posted their biggest single-day loss in three months to hit 2.5-week low, as a strong yen amid escalating global trade tensions soured investors' appetite for risk.
