Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton today spoke with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to discuss ways to help reduce internet congestion, a Commission official told POLITICO.
“Streaming platforms, telecom operators and users, we all have a joint responsibility to take steps to ensure the smooth functioning of the internet during the battle against the virus propagation,” Breton said in a statement.
Internet activity has spiked across Europe as governments put their citizens on lockdown and companies encourage people to work from home to curb the spread of coronavirus. Digital infrastructures are holding up — for now.
