If Britain fails to secure a trade deal with the European Union when it quits the bloc, the country could be embroiled in “civil unrest” within two weeks, according to online retail firm Amazon.
Doug Gurr, Amazons U.K. manager, told participants at a meeting organized by new Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab last Friday that the retailing giant is planning for the worst-case scenario in the event of a no-deal Brexit, the Times wrote Monday.
Gurr reportedly told the other guests, among them chiefs of Barclays, Lloyds of London and Shell, that the possibility of civil unrest is being considered as part of Amazons contingency planning.
An Amazon spokesperson wouldnt confirm or deny that Gurr made the comments, but said the company is preparing for a “wide range of scenarios in planning discussions,” adding, “its the way we plan for any number of issues around the world.”
