BNR – A huge shinning ‘X’ marked the San Francisco building where X Corp owner Musk is set to make it its Headquarters. However, city lawmakers and some citizens in the area were not pleased by the showcase.
The company displayed an ‘X’ logo on the building, but neighbours were dissatisfied, saying the lights were overly invasive. The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection is investigating the incident.
Decision to Keep ‘X’ in San Francisco
The move comes after the multi-billionaire owner announced that the new company would stay in the city. This is despite what he called the city’s “doom spiral”, remarking on companies leaving the city.
Elon Musk is also the CEO of the electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla. He moved the firm’s HQ from California to Texas two years ago in 2021. The decision to keep ‘X’ in San Francisco may be better for the city, particularly after suffering a tourism shortfall. The city has sustained several economic losses due to the Coronavirus.
The city centre is suffering from a lack of jobs in the technology industry, the departure of big companies and diminished tourism. Furthermore, traffic has decreased as more residents work remotely, with prevailing homelessness and a high crime rate.
“Beautiful San Francisco, though others forsake you, we will always be your friend,” Musk stated.
Locals Dissatisfied with Huge Logo
However, not all residents of the city are happy with Musk’s decision, as they recorded videos of the ‘X’ logo. They rebuked the huge emblem with its overly bright and invasive nature.
X user @itsmefrenchy123 said they would be “LIVID” over the bright emblem, seeing it “right across from your bedroom.” Meanwhile, San Francisco’s Department of Building Inspection is investigating the logo, stating it may be a breach of permit laws.
A city inspector reported that agents from the firm denied them access to the firm’s roof to check the logo. One said the logo was temporary.
