Qatar’s Boehm buys Turkish McDonald’s restaurants for $54 million

Boehm

Doha, (Business News Report)|| Qatari company Boehm has succeeded in purchasing the entirety of McDonald’s restaurants in Turkey, for $54 million.

The Turkish Haber Global website said that the Anadolu Holding Group, headed by Tuncay Ozilhan, sold the Turkish McDonald’s to the Vienna-based Boehm Company of Qatar, owned by businessman Kamal Al-Mana.

Al-Mana is a partner in the company that runs the McDonald’s restaurants agency in Qatar.

It is noteworthy that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced, in the year 2020, that the volume of Qatari investments in his country amounted to $20 billion.

In 2020, the Qatar Investment Authority bought 30% of the Istinye Park Mall, the largest shopping center in Istanbul, for one billion dollars.

Last year, the Qatari company, QTerminals, signed a deal to acquire the Turkish port of Akdeniz in the coastal city of Antalya, for $140 million.

In a separate context, the Duma (the Russian parliament) announced its support for a Russian fast-food chain of fast food restaurants to replace the famous global chain McDonald’s.

This comes after McDonald’s announced the closure of its entire branch in Russia in sympathy with the Ukrainians, who are facing a three-week Russian war.

The Independent, revealed that Moscow invested in local fast-food chains after McDonald’s closed its restaurants in Russia, and a Russian chain of restaurants classified as an alternative to McDonald’s revealed a logo very similar to the famous golden arches of the fast food giant.

Russia’s State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin told parliament that Uncle Vanya, a Russian brand,  should replace McDonald’s. The Russian news agency Interfax reported that the mayor of Moscow had said that local chains could replace 250 McDonald’s restaurants in the Russian capital within a year.

It was suggested that the alternatives would be better than the American giant because 99% of its ingredients would be Russian, and it was reported in local Russian media that the city council awarded 500 million rubles (£ 3.6 million) to local fast food chains, and a trademark for the Uncle Vanya franchise was registered last week. to the Russian authorities.

McDonald’s stopped operating in Russia last week, more than 30 years after its arrival, which served as a symbol of warm East-West relations at the end of the Cold War.
