Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who has suffered a major defeat at hands of comedian-turned-politician Volodymyr Zelensky, remains optimistic and has announced plans to win next parliamentary and presidential elections.
Poroshenko held a meeting with his supporters right at the doorstep of his administration in Kiev on Monday, thanking them and stating that their “big victories” are still ahead. After the gathering, he took to Twitter, announcing bold plans – and surely raising a few eyebrows.
Among other things, Poroshenko vowed to “return to Bankovaya street” –where the administration is located– in five years, as well as win parliamentary elections this fall. Poroshenko apparently missed Zelenskys promise to move the presidential administration from Bankovaya Street – or hes already planning to bring it back.
Fresh off yesterday's election defeat, Ukrainian President Poroshenko vows not to quit politics, says his team will win parliamentary elections, and "together we will return to Bankova Street" — the presidential administration address — "after the next presidential elections." https://t.co/8on0mwI2CU

Poroshenkos plans are definitely bold – if not outlandish altogether – indeed, given the extent of the defeat he suffered during elections on Sunday. The incumbent president got slightly above 24 percent of votes, while Zelensky received support of 73 percent.
Poroshenko says hes going to stay on frontline Ukrainian politics and plans on being president again in 5 years. Bold thinking after a crushing defeat – and not the grateful conference circuit exit the west had hoped for https://t.co/IPuyCDpNBT

Poroshenko fared quite well only in the western parts of the country, yet managed to score a victory only in the region of Lviv. In the east he received minor support, showing the expectedly lowest results in Lugansk and Donetsk. The two regions have been a battlefield under Poroshenkos rule, where the Ukrainian army and affiliated far-right militias face anti-Kiev rebels, who rejected the Maidan coup of 2014.
