The Dalai Lama has been taken to a private hospital and diagnosed with a chest infection, according to his aides. The religious leader fell ill upon returning home from a summit of "youth leaders" in New Delhi.
The Tibetan Buddhist leader, who is 83 years old, will spend the next "two to three days" at the hospital recovering, his private secretary Tenzin Takhla said. He was flown to New Delhi to consult with doctors and subsequently hospitalized after he reported feeling "some discomfort," and is now reported to be in stable condition. The Dalai Lama had just returned from the Indian capital to Dharamsala, where he has lived in exile for 60 years since fleeing Tibet, having addressed a gathering of "Youth Global Leaders" called by philanthropist Bobby Sager.
