Laura Smith earned a standing ovation at a socialist fringe event at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.
Addressing her "comrades", she demanded a general strike of mass worker walkouts that would paralyse Britain – but Labour has been clear this is not party policy.
Labour has set out its stall over the past few days – hoping to force the Tories into a General Election as the Prime Minister struggles to get a grip on Brexit.
The last general strike took place nearly 100 years ago in 1926 – and it forced non-striking workers to volunteer to maintain essential services.
More than 1.7 million workers walked out over nine days over an ongoing row with coal miners.

Ms Smith, who is a member of the Unite and Unison unions and a former teacher, raised suggestion of a general strike at The World Transformed festival on Tuesday night.
"Today we've heard calls for a true people's vote. A general election," the MP for Crewe and Nantwich said.
"Comrades, we must topple this cruel and callous Tory Government as soon as we can. And if we can't get a general election, we should organise with our brothers and sisters in the trade unions to bring an end to this government with a general strike."
After the crowd rose to their feet in applause, she commented: "That went better than I thought it would've gone."

A general strike today would need the major unions to take cooperative action in organising a mass walkout to force an election.
Under the Fixed-Term Parliament Act, no general election is due to be held until 2022.
Asked about Laura Smith's comments calling for a general strike, shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey said: "Well that's not our position.
"Laura is an absolutely amazing MP, she's one of the North West MPs with myself, she's so full of energy and enthusiasm, but we're certainly not advocating general strikes as Labour Party policy."
She added: "Just to make it perfectly clear a general strike is not Labour Party policy."

Britain is feared to crash out of the EU with no deal which could lead to chaos once we reach the Brexit deadline on March 29.
Mrs May is now scrambling for a new option to present to Brussels, while also battling divisions within her own party sowed by hard Brexiteers such as Boris Johnson and David Davis.
Labour leader Corbyn will later today denounce “greed-is good capitalism” and propose the creation of a “green revolution” to create 400,000 new jobs.
The conference has been dominated by Brexit – as well as the ongoing row over accusations of systemic anti-Semitism within Labour.
