@realDonaldTrump not above Twitter law, says firm’s Europe boss

U.S President Donald Trump must play by the same rules as everyone else when he sends his daily barrage of tweets, Twitter’s Europe boss said Tuesday.

Bruce Daisley told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Emma Barnett Show that if the U.S. president breaks the rules, he would be asked to take down offending tweets — and could even be kicked off the social media site.

Daisley said if Trump publishes tweets that included personal information, “we would caution him to remove that tweet.” Twitter’s rules state that any user who publishes tweets containing personal information will be asked to remove the offending message. Failure to do so could mean they are temporarily locked out of their account.

The site’s “no-gos” apply to all users, including the president of the United States, Daisley said.

Last week, Twitter published a blog post called “World leaders on Twitter.”

“Twitter is here to serve and help advance the global, public conversation,” it said. “Elected world leaders play a critical role in that conversation because of their outsized impact on our society.

“Blocking a world leader from Twitter or removing their controversial tweets would hide important information people should be able to see and debate,” the post said. “It would also not silence that leader, but it would certainly hamper necessary discussion around their words and actions.”

The blog post didn’t mention Trump by name.
