NEW DELHI: Equity benchmarks ended Tuesday's session in the negative territory, breaking the three-session winning streak, owing to selling across sectors.
The Nifty50 index closed 82 points down at 10,240, while the 30-share Sensex closed Tuesday's session 228 points down at 33,228.
With a gain of nearly 3 per cent, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories stood as the top gainer in the Nifty50 index. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, GAIL (India) and Lupin.
Among the losers, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation cracked dover 4 per cent. Bharti Infratel, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Coal India, UPL, Eicher Motors, Hero MotoCorp and Indian Oil Corporation declined over 2 per cent.
All sectoral indices settled in the red on NSE, with Nifty Realty, private bank, FMCG and Nifty Bank indices falling over 1 per cent.
As many as 85 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs, whereas 15 stocks hit fresh 52-week lows on NSE on Tuesday.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 12 closed the day in the green, while 38 in the red.
