The Tory MP told Austrian business leaders the commitment offered a “clear road” into talks with the other member states, who fear Britain might undercut the EU in the future to make more money.
But Labour slammed his comments, claiming his assurance the UK would not lead a “race to the bottom” outside the EU was not “worth the paper it is written on”.
