Brazilian president snubs French foreign minister to get his hair cut

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro canceled a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian because he had something more important to do — get his hair cut.

The official reason for the meeting being called off was the presidents busy agenda, Le Monde reported, but minutes after news of the cancellation had been made public, Bolsonaro was seen getting his hair cut in a live Facebook video.

A spokesman for Bolsonaro said the president “starts work at 4 a.m. and ends at midnight. He has to find time to cut his hair between 4 a.m. and midnight.”

Bolsonaros diplomatic disregard for the senior French Cabinet minister comes at a time of increased tension between Latin America and Paris over the EU-Mercosur trade agreement.

The deal between the EU and the Mercosur bloc — Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay — was concluded in late June, although it still needs to be ratified by EU governments and the European Parliament, as well as some 40 national parliaments across Europe (Irish MPs rejected the proposed deal in a symbolic vote earlier this month).
