Trade between Bahrain and Russia fell 5% last year

Foreign trade between Bahrain and Russia fell by 5% last year 2020, compared to its volume in 2019.

The volume of foreign trade between Bahrain and Russia amounted to $40 million at the end of last year. This is compared to $43 million in 2019, according to Bahraini media.

Bahrain also recorded a Russian trade deficit of $17 million in 2020, compared to a deficit of $24 million in 2019.

Bahrain’s imports from Russia declined to $29 million in 2020. This is compared to $33 million in imports in 2019, a decrease of 12.80%.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s exports to Russia increased to $11.74 million in 2020, compared to exports of $9.5 million in 2019.

Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko, said recently that the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, wants to visit Russia, expecting Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit the Arab region.

Matviyenko, who visited Bahrain earlier, said after a telephone conversation with the King, that the latter made it clear that he had seen the Russian President’s message, confirming the close relations he had with President Putin.

The King also added that he is awaiting the Russian President’s visit to Bahrain, while expressing his personal desire to visit Moscow.

At the beginning of her visit to Bahrain, Matviyenko discussed with the Speaker of the Bahraini Shura Council, Ali bin Saleh, ways to develop trade relations and cultural exchange and facilitate the visit of citizens of the two countries without a visa.

Foreign labor

In a related context, remittances of foreign workers in Bahrain decreased until the end of the third quarter of this year 2021.

Al-Bilad newspaper said that foreign worker remittances declined by 11% since the beginning of this year until the end of September, compared to last year.

Remittances of foreign workers since the beginning of the year until the end of the third quarter of this year amounted to $1.8 billion. This is compared to two billion dollars in the same period in 2020.
