U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson sent European Council President Donald Tusk a letter requesting an extension of the Oct. 31 Brexit deadline late on Saturday night, Tusk announced on Twitter.

Johnson had told Tusk he would be sending the letter when they spoke by phone at 8:15 P.M. Brussels time.

“The extension request has just arrived. I will now start consulting EU leaders on how to react,” Tusk said in his tweet.

Downing Street actually sent three letters, EU sources said, including the formal request for an extension until Jan. 31, 2020 and a letter from Britains envoy to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow.

Johnson did not sign the extension request, according to the deputy leader of the opposition Labour Party, John McDonnell, who accused the prime minister of “treRead More – Source
