Dubai – Business News Report|| The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum is preparing to export a new shipment of liquefied natural gas to European markets before the end of the fourth quarter of 2026. This move will utilize the Edco LNG complex located in the western Mediterranean region.

A source familiar with the matter stated that this initiative aims to enhance Egypt’s chances of recovering its gas export capabilities. The strategy supports leveraging available price opportunities in global markets while European demand for energy rises during the winter season.

Recent days have witnessed the start of pumping natural gas quantities into the Edco LNG complex. This development follows an agreement among partners regarding the volume of supplies designated for export and coordination concerning marketing mechanisms for the anticipated shipment.

The new shipment is expected to be directed to one of the European markets. Shell or TotalEnergies are likely to purchase it through their commercial arms, as they remain among the most prominent partners and traders involved in the production of the complex.

The ownership structure of the Edco LNG complex includes Shell Global and the French company TotalEnergies. These international entities operate alongside the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company, known as Egas, and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation within the joint venture framework.

The complex contains two gas liquefaction units. Each unit has a production capacity of 3.6 million tons annually. The total design capacity reaches 7.2 million tons per year, marking a significant infrastructure asset for national energy exports.

Operations began at the facility with the export of its first shipments in 2005. The single upcoming shipment is estimated to have a load of 150 thousand cubic meters of liquefied natural gas. This figure represents the standard capacity for vessels transporting this type of fuel.

The estimated value of the shipment is calculated according to global price levels at the time of export. The timing provides Egypt with an opportunity to benefit from rising demand for liquefied natural gas in European markets during the winter season.

Continued needs for heating fuel across the continent may positively reflect on the value achieved from export operations. The government is working to diversify gas supply sources for power plants and industrial sectors through ongoing field development programs.
