The e-commerce company eBay has confirmed its openness to payment options in cryptocurrencies in the future, according to its CEO, Jamie Iannone.

This announcement caused eBay’s shares to rise, with significant gains towards the end of trading in the United States.

This is not the first time that company has announced its willingness to accept digital currencies. In 2013, former company president John Donahoe said that he was open to accept Bitcoin as a means of payment. Yet the plans faltered, and less than two years later Donahoe left the company.

This comes at a time when the recognition of cryptocurrency by companies and heads of major companies such as Tesla is expanding.

Interest in cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, has increased recently. The founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, announced cooperation with rapper Jay-Z to launch a foundation aimed at financing the development of Bitcoin to become the “Internet’s currency.”

Dorsey, who is also the president of Square payment services company, said on Twitter: “JAY-Z/@S_C_ and I are giving 500 BTC to a new endowment named ₿trust to fund #Bitcoin development, initially focused on teams in Africa & India”.

In the same context, Canada’s main securities regulator has announced the launch of the world’s first bitcoin exchange traded fund. The fund is an investment manager providing investors greater access to the cryptocurrency that has sparked an explosion in trading interest.

Despite suspicions about Bitcoin being used in illegal operations, the cryptocurrency is achieving great growth, thanks to the investments of major companies.

EBay is a multinational e-commerce company headquartered in San Jose, California, in the United States.

Through its website, the company facilitates consumer-to-consumer commerce and contributes to retail trade.

Pierre Omidyar founded eBay in 1995 and over time it has become a giant in the world of online commerce.
