Tunisia’s cumulative tourism receipts reached 4.72 billion dinars ($1.61 billion) between the start of 2026 and August 10, against 4.50 billion dinars ($1.54 billion) in the same period of 2025, according to central bank data. The 217 million dinar ($74 million) increase amounts to year-on-year growth of 4.82 percent.
Six Million Arrivals by End-July
The country received about 6 million tourists between January and the end of July. Tunisia is targeting more than 12 million visitors by the close of 2026, which would be a first, and reaching it would require roughly 6 million more arrivals over the remaining months of the year.
Remittances From Tunisians Abroad
Alongside tourism, transfers from Tunisians living abroad totalled 5.57 billion dinars ($1.90 billion) up to August 10, compared with 5.29 billion dinars ($1.81 billion) in the corresponding period last year.
Together, the two channels brought in 10.29 billion dinars ($3.51 billion) in foreign currency since the beginning of the year. They are the mainstays of the country’s hard currency inflows.
Reserves and Import Cover
Tunisia’s foreign currency holdings stood at 24.81 billion dinars ($8.48 billion) on August 17, enough to cover 97 days of imports. A year earlier the same measure stood at 104 days, meaning import cover has shortened by a week even as tourism receipts and remittances both increased.
