BNR – The South Korean multinational automotive manufacturers, Hyundai Motor and Kia, are recollecting nearly 92,000 vehicles in the United States. This is due to a fire hazard.

The recollection extends to many models and is due to a problem with an electric element in the oil pump. The transmission oil pump could overheat and set ablaze, resulting in a fire hazard.

Owners Urged to Park Outside

The two firms urged the vehicle owners to park the cars outdoors and further from residents until inspect them. It’s the most recent in an array of fire recollections of Hyundai and Kia automobiles in the past few years.

Regarding the last recollection, Kia stated there were 6 complaints of “thermal” issues, with no car accidents or injured parties. Hyundai also stated it had 4 similar complaints, with no registered car accidents, injuries or deaths.

In addition to fire hazards, thermal damages could result in a short circuit, eventually causing the vehicle to lose control.

“Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete,” the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said.

Recent Fire Recalls Impact Hyundai, Kia

They added that the electric control element for the oil pump could have broken electrical components. The damage may result in the pump overheating, eventually leading to fires.

The companies will communicate with car owners by the end of September, prompting dealerships to inspect the cars. Dealerships will replace the damaged part when necessary.

The vehicle manufacturers noted that the damaged component was removed from production in March.
