Saudi Arabia extends COVID-19 measures for 20 days

Saudi Arabia have extended the precautionary COVID-19 measures for an additional twenty days. The Kingdom attempts to limit the spread of the Coronavirus.

The COVID-19 measures include preventing human gatherings, suspending entertainment activities and events, closing cinemas, and suspending internal ordering services in restaurants and cafes.

The measures will start from 10 p.m. Sunday. The total duration of these procedures becomes 30 days, which can be extended if needed.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted an official in the Ministry of Interior as saying that the extension of the measures issued on February 3 are in line with the competent health authorities’ recommendations.

The extension also comes due to the importance of intensifying efforts and avoiding the risks of a rise in the pandemic curve in the Kingdom, especially with the presence of indications of this, he said.

He said there is an apparent lax in the application of preventive and precautionary measures and the approved protocols.

The Saudi authorities’ action comes to preserve the public health of society and the gains of the efforts of the past period at all levels. They also aim to achieve optimal control over the epidemiological situation.

The source also pointed to the importance of completing two complete epidemiological cycles of applying the necessary precautionary COVID-19 measures.

For the third consecutive day, the Saudi health authorities recorded more than 360 new cases of Coronavirus within 24 hours.

Ministry of Health said that 364 cases of coronavirus had been detected at the end of last week.

The Coronavirus death toll rose on Friday, with five new deaths, while 274 patients recovered.
