Super Tuesday II: Trump Wins All States in GOP Primaries, Biden Wins Most States in Democratic Primaries

Voters in six states cast their ballots on Tuesday, March 13. Five states—Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, and Washington—are holding Democratic and Republican primaries, and North Dakota is holding Democratic and Republican caucuses.

Just more than a week ago, voters in 14 states participated in the first Super Tuesday of the year on March 3, where Biden won 10 of the states and also took the lead in delegates over Sanders in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. Meanwhile, in the race for the Republican nomination, out of 834 delegates, Trump collected 833 and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld won one delegate.

Most polls closed by 8 p.m. ET, with Michigans polls, split between two timezones, all closed by 9 p.m. ET. In Idaho and Washington state, polls closed by 11 p.m. ET. Washington state held a mail-in primary, and as such, votes may take days to tally.

Here was how the night unfolded:

Washington Democratic Primary Too Early to Call

The Democratic presidential primary in Washington state is too early to call, according to The Associated Press.

“All votes in Washington state are cast by mail or by dropping them off in a ballot box, and the state counts a significant amount on the day of the election,” the news agency reported. “But once that first update is released, election officials only provide an update once a day until all the late-arriving ballots are counted.”

Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders appear to be in a close race according to the first set of results released late Tuesday. Of the roughly 1 million votes counted so far, Biden and Sanders each won about 33 percent.

Most counties in Washington state will update their results Wednesday.

Biden Projected to Win Idaho Democratic Primary

Joe Biden is projected to win Idahos Democratic presidential primary. The Associated Press called Bidens victory at 1:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

Idaho, which has 20 pledged delegates on offer, is using a primary in 2020 after having used a caucus in 2016; Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nominee at the time.

Officials have said switching to a Democratic primary this year from a caucus could significantly increase the number of participants and play a role in the outcome, The Associated Press reported.

Trump Wins in All Six States on Super Tuesday II

President Donald Trump has won or is projected to win multiple Republican presidential primaries and the North Dakota caucus late Tuesday as polls close and results flow in from multiple states.

Trump took to Twitter to celebrate his victories in Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan, and Washington Republican primaries, as well as the North Dakota Republican caucus.

The Associated Press called Trumps win in Mississippi, Missouri, Michigan, and Idaho as of 12:50 a.m. ET Wednesday.

Trump and Weld were on the ballot in the Republican race in Idaho, Michigan, Mississippi, and Missouri. Trump was the only candidate on the ballot in Washington state. In North Dakotas caucus, Trump was the only candidate to qualify for the ballot.

Biden Says Its Another Good Night

Joe Biden said late Tuesday that it is “another good night” and “a step closer to restoring decency, dignity and honor to the White House” as he is celebrating his projected wins in the Mississippi, Missouri, and Michigan Democratic presidential primaries.

Speaking to a crowd near his Philadelphia campaign headquarters, Biden also addressed Bernie Sanderss supporters.

“I want to thank Bernie Sanders and his supporters for their tireless energy and their passion. We share a common goal, and together well defeat Donald Trump. Well defeat him together,” Biden said.

He also acknowledged recent endorsements from former Democratic presidential candidates, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Beto ORourke, Pete Buttigieg and Mike Bloomberg.

Biden also spoke about the coronavirus outbreak and said he would propose a plan.

“This whole coronavirus issue is a matter of presidential leadership, and later this week Ill be speaking to you on what I believe the nation should be doing to address this virus,” Biden said.

Both Biden and Sanders canceled rallies Tuesday night due to coronavirus concerns. The next Democratic debate to take place on Sunday in Arizona will not have a live audience, again due to coronavirus concerns.

Trump Endorses Tuberville in Alabama Senate Runoff

President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced his support for former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville in the Alabama runoff election against Jeff Sessions, a former attorney general under Trump.

“Tommy Tuberville (@TTuberville) is running for the U.S. Senate from the Great State of Alabama,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Tommy was a terrific head football coach at Auburn University.

“He is a REAL LEADER who will never let MAGA/KAG, or our Country, down!” Trump added. “Tommy will protect your Second Amendment (which is under siege), is strong on Crime and the Border, and truly LOVES our Military and our Vets. He will be a great Senator for the people of Alabama. Coach Tommy Tuberville, a winner, has my Complete and Total Endorsement. I love Alabama!”

Tuberville and Sessions will face off in the runoff election on March 31 seeking the Republican nomination to challenge incumbent Democrat Doug Jones. Tuberville currently has 33.3 percent of the vote, compared to Sessions with 31.6 percent of the vote as of late Tuesday

Sessions was the first Senate Republican to endorse Trump in 2016 before joining his administration. The president forced Sessions out of the Justice Department after repeatedly criticizing Sessionss decision to recuse himself from the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Yang joined CNN as a political commentator last month.

Yangs announcement comes after Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) announced his endorsement for Biden on Monday.
