A ten-year-old girls body was found in a trash bag and police have arrested her stepmother for murder.

Amanda Carmack, 34, is charged killing her stepdaughter, Skylea Carmack, who authorities say appears to have been strangled to death.

Skyleas body was discovered inside a shed at her family home wrapped in a plastic trash bag early Wednesday morning in Gas City, Indiana.

Her stepmother reported the girl missing on Saturday evening triggering a massive search that saw crews scouring multiple counties for the girl.

Indiana Police Sergeant Tony Slocum told People: Our concern at law enforcement is who and how versus why.

There is no rational answer for why anyone would kill a ten-year-old. As a police officer, as time goes on, it was a possibility – but I held out hope.

Our main focus was to fine her alive and safe, and obviously that did not occur. I am sad and angry it happened on our watch.

Skyleas father, Kevin Carmack, told Fox59 that he feared his daughter ran away because she had tried to run away from home before.

He said he was at work when his daughter disappeared while she was at home with Amanda and six other children.

While Skylea was still missing, Kevin Carmack said his daughter had been grounded and it just went a little too far and she got stuck and now shes just scared to come home.
