Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) filed for divorce from her husband about five weeks after denying reports she was separated from her partner and was having an affair with a married man.
“Are you separated from your husband? Are you dating somebody?” Omar was asked in late August.
“No, I am not,” she replied.
Omar filed for divorce from Ahmed Hirsi on Oct. 4, according to the New York Post.
Omars love life has long been a source of contention after reporters found evidence indicating she may have married her own brother in an alleged marriage fraud scheme.
The issue came under fresh scrunity after a Washington woman said in late August as she filed for divorce that her husband had an affair with Omar.
Dr. Beth Mynett said that her husband, Tim Mynett, informed her in April that he was in love with Omar and was having an affair with the congresswoman.
Beth Mynett, 55, who graduated from the University of Arizona, has worked for the Mayo Clinic, and currently works as medical director for the D.C. Department of Corrections, has a 13-year-old son with her husband, 38. According to property records, they co-own a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on 15th St. NW in Washington.
Tim Mynett is a partner with E. Street Consulting, which was paid nearly $223,000 since Aug. 2018 by Omars campaign, according to federal records. Her campaign also paid Tim Mynett $7,000 on July 11, 2018.
“The parties physically separated on or about April 7, 2019, when Defendant told Plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar, who serves as a U.S. representative from Minnesota,” according to the divorce filing. “Defendants more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Representative Omar than with his actual work commitments.”
Tim Mynett later denied the affair, claiming that his wife is trying to derail his career.
