NEW DELHI: The BSE Smallcap index hit a fresh record high of 19,890 in Monday's trade.

The S&P BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.74 per cent up at 19,851 around 11 am (IST), backed by gains in Premier Explosives (up 17.51 per cent), Bharat Wire Ropes (up 12.66 per cent), Phillips Carbon Black (up 11.65 per cent) and BASF India (up 10.64 per cent).

Shares of Pincon Spirit (up 9.88 per cent), Kesar Terminals & Infrastructure (up 8.95 per cent), AYM Syntex (up 8.72 per cent), Snowman Logistics (up 8.06 per cent), India Glycols (up 7.91 per cent), Excel Industries (up 7.80 per cent), Balaji Amines (up 7.63 per cent) and Diamond Power Infrastructure (up 7.58 per cent) also registered gains in the BSE Smallcap index.

However, G M Breweries (down 5.45 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Fineotex Chemical (down 4.99 per cent), Bombay Rayon Fashions (down 4.97 per cent), Alankit (down 4.96 per cent), Sanwaria Consumer (down 4.94 per cent), Gujarat NRE Coke (down 4.91 per cent), Steel Exchange India (down 4.89 per cent) and MBL Infrastructures (down 4.60 per cent) cracked up to 5 per cent among the smallcap stocks.

Benchmark BSE Sensex was 193 points up at 34,347, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 56 points up at 10,615.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 38 were trading in the green, while 12 were in the red.

Sun Pharma, Infosys, ICICI Bank and Dr Reddy's Labs were among the top gainers in the Sensex kitty of stocks.

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel declined over 3 per cent in the Sensex index.
