Market Now: BSE Midcap index hits fresh record high

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Midcap index hit fresh all-time high ..

NEW DELHI: The S&P BSE Midcap index hit fresh all-time high of 17,654 in morning trade on Friday, extending the gains for the seventh consecutive session.

The BSE Midcap index was trading 0.47 per cent up at 17,636 around 10:30 am (IST), with shares of Adani Power (up 7.55 per cent) and Reliance Infrastructure (up 5.36 per cent) surging over 5 per cent.

Shares of Tata Power Company (up 2.97 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Infotech (up 2.77 per cent), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (up 2.10 per cent), MRF (up 1.78 per cent), Canara Bank (up 1.43 per cent) and Reliance Power (up 1.36 per cent) were also among the top gainers in the midcap index.

However, Wockhardt (down 1.96 per cent), Muthoot Finance (down 1.61 per cent), Emami (down 1.00 per cent), Sun TV Network (down 0.88 per cent) and MphasiS (down 0.80 per cent) were trading down among the midcap stocks.

Benchmark BSE Sensex was 139 points up at 33,896, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 36 points up at 10,476.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 32 were trading in the green, while 18 were in the red.

Bharti Airtel, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, State Bank of India, Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra & Mahindra gained over 1 per cent in the Sensex index.

However, Coal India, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid Corporation and Dr Reddy's Lab were trading among the losers of Sensex kitty.
