Market Now: BSE Midcap index down; Wockhardt, Emami plunge over 6%

NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was 0.60 per cent down at 17,603 around 11 am (IST) on Tuesday. The benchmarks Sensex was 0.62 per cent down at 36,058, while Nifty50 was 0.73 per cent down at 11,049.

Shares of Wockhardt (down 6.49 per cent), Emami (down 6.01 per cent), Shriram Transport Finance Company (down 3.72 per cent), Vakrangee (down 2.85 per cent), Federal Bank (down 2.78 per cent), The Ramco Cements (down 2.55 per cent), NBCC (India) (down 2.32 per cent), Muthoot Finance (down 2.26 per cent), Shriram City Union Finance (down 2.25 per cent), Godrej Industries (down 2.05 per cent) and Container Corporation of India (Concor) (down 2 per cent) were the top losers in the BSE Midcap index.

However, shares of Reliance Communications (up 17.06 per cent) zoomed over 17 per cent in the index.

Larsen & Toubro Infotech (up 3.80 per cent), GRUH Finance (up 3.62 per cent), Reliance Power (up 3.42 per cent), Indian Hotels Company (up 2.81 per cent), GE T&D India (up 2.79 per cent), Biocon (up 2.20 per cent), Canara Bank (up 1.77 per cent), Cummins India (up 1.71 per cent), MphasiS (up 1.58 per cent), Tata Communications (up 1.57 per cent) and Jindal Steel & Power (up 1.33 per cent) were also among the top gainers.

With a gain of nearly 2 per cent, shares of State Bank of India were leading the Sensex index.

On the contrary, Asian Paints, Wipro and Axis Bank were the top drags on the Sensex index.

Among the 30 stocks in the Sensex, 6 were trading up while 24 were down around 10.50 am (IST).
