Man abducted newborn from mother’s arms, killed her and dumped her in a trash can
A man was jailed for 141 years after he stole a newborn baby from her mother’s arms, killed her and dumped her body in a trash can.
Anthony McCall, 32, kidnapped three week-old Eliza De La Cruz after shooting her mom, dad and uncle in a bizarre attempt to help a friend scam her boyfriend.
His pal, Giseleangelique Rene D’Milian, requested the kidnap so she could fool a boyfriend into thinking he was the father of newborn twins she had given birth to while he was out of town.
The horrifying abduction took place at the De La Cruz’s family home in Long Beach, California, on January 3 2015.
Initially, McCall attempted to keep his tiny victim alive, buying her formula and feeding her.
But just a day later the helpless infant was found in a bin behind a pizza shop on Imperial Beach, with officials still unsure as to why McCall murdered her.
Asked if he had gotten anything in return for the kidnapping during a wiretap played during his trial, McCall said: ‘It was for me…
‘Honestly dude, I did it out of the sheer kindness of my heart.’
During McCall’s trial, Eliza’s mom Jackie Honorato also told jurors how she heard a woman who sounded like D’Milian cooing ‘I’m your new mommy’ shortly after she lay injured from gunshot wounds.
Veteran scammer D’Milian struck a plea deal January, which saw her admit first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in return for 25 years to life in prison.
A second mother whose baby McCall tried to steal to provide a ‘twin’ for D’Milian also shared her incomprehension at what had happened to her.
According to the Press Telegram, she said: ‘I do forgive him, but only God judges.
‘But I just want to know why he tried to take my life and tried to take my baby.’
McCall was sentenced Monday at Long Beach’s Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse
