{"id":94079,"date":"2018-10-13T16:28:29","date_gmt":"2018-10-13T16:28:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/center-for-auto-safety-calls-out-hyundai-and-kia-over-lack-of-fire-recall-roadshow\/"},"modified":"2018-10-13T16:28:29","modified_gmt":"2018-10-13T16:28:29","slug":"center-for-auto-safety-calls-out-hyundai-and-kia-over-lack-of-fire-recall-roadshow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/center-for-auto-safety-calls-out-hyundai-and-kia-over-lack-of-fire-recall-roadshow\/","title":{"rendered":"Center for Auto Safety calls out Hyundai and Kia over lack of fire recall     \u2013 Roadshow"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><figcaption>\n<p>Among the vehicles included in the request for recall is the 2010-2015 Kia Soul.<\/p>\n<p>                                                     Sarah Tew\/CNET                                                 <\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Center for Auto Safety renewed its call on Friday for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/hyundai\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/kia\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Kia<\/a> to issue a recall over vehicle fires, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autonews.com\/article\/20181012\/OEM11\/181019789\/hyunda-kia-fire-recall-sorrento-optima-sonata-santa-fe-soul\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Automotive News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit consumer advocacy group (originally founded by Ralph Nader of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unsafe_at_Any_Speed\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Unsafe At Any Speed<\/a> fame) alleges that Hyundai and Kia have not gone far enough to remedy the potential for vehicle fires in over 3 million 2011-2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/kia\/model\/sorento\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Kia Sorento<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/kia\/model\/optima\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Optima<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/hyundai\/model\/sonata\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hyundai Sonata<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/roadshow\/make\/hyundai\/model\/santa-fe\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Fe<\/a> models, as well as 2010-2015 Kia Souls.<\/p>\n<p>The Center for Auto Safety reports having received more than 200 complaints of vehicle fires from Hyundai and Kia owners, with 103 of those being filed between June and October of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Based on the data collected to date, and these manufacturers&#039; inability, or unwillingness, to determine the cause of these fires on behalf of the hundreds of Kia and Hyundai customers who own cars which have burst into flames, the center believes the additional remedy which is warranted is a full recall,&quot; said Jason Levine, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosafety.org\/center-for-auto-safety-demands-recall-of-2-9-million-2011-2014-kia-and-hyundai-vehicles-after-almost-one-non-collision-fire-report-every-day-for-four-months\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">in a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;In some very rare instances \u2014 a rate of less than 1 percent \u2014 the affected engines have caught on fire.
