If you've bought a Vitamix blender<\/a> recently, listen up. Vitamix has recalled<\/a> more 100,000 blender containers because of dangerous blades. The affected jars are the 8-ounce and 20-ounce versions that are designed for small-batch blends. They have an inverted design, which means that you screw the part that contains the blade onto the container's top, then flip it upside down and insert it the blender. <\/p>\n

The company made the recall because there have been reports of the container disconnecting while blending, which can expose the blades while they're still spinning, according to the recall notice issued Aug. 9 by the the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Vitamix has received 11 reports so far of people cutting their hands on blades exposed in this manner. <\/p>\n

About 105,000 containers have been recalled. Additionally, 5,300 Vitamix jars in Canada also have the problem. The recall involves the Ascent and Venturist series that were sold by Costco, Williams-Sonoma and Vitamix directly. The recall does not include refurbished<\/a> (a.k.a. reconditioned) models. <\/p>\n

A Vitamix representative said the cause of the malfunction is a faulty gasket. Replacing the gasket with a new one will solve the issue, and the company will send you a repair kit if you have the recalled jars.<\/p>\n
