{"id":84629,"date":"2018-07-07T02:46:18","date_gmt":"2018-07-07T02:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/vote-leave-broke-campaign-spending-rules-report-2\/"},"modified":"2018-07-07T02:46:18","modified_gmt":"2018-07-07T02:46:18","slug":"vote-leave-broke-campaign-spending-rules-report-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/vote-leave-broke-campaign-spending-rules-report-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Vote Leave broke campaign spending rules: report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The official Brexit campaign group Vote Leave faces a possible fine after a draft report by the U.K.s Electoral Commission found that it broke campaign spending rules by sending money to a separate campaign that spent it with a data analytics firm, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-politics-44704561\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">BBC reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The report follows accusations from several whistleblowers who claimed the group made a \u00a3625,000 donation to pro-Brexit youth campaign BeLeave in order to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/activist-suggests-vote-leave-broke-spending-rules-in-brexit-campaign-vote-leave-boris-johnson-cambridge-analytica-facebook\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">skirt campaign spending limits<\/a>, and that the money went directly to data analytics firm AggregateIQ, thus enabling Vote Leave to retain control of the donation.<\/p>\n<p>Former Leave Chief Executive Matthew Elliot said in an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/vote-leave-broke-campaign-spending-rules-says-electoral-commission-11425636\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sky News<\/a> that the courts preliminary report amounts to a \u201chuge breach of natural justice.\u201d The court, which he said has refused to consider evidence produced by the Leave campaign, had only listened to the accounts of \u201cfantasists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheyve listened to these, quite frankly marginal characters who came out in March, and listened to their stories, but havent had evidence from Vote Leave side of things,\u201d Elliot said. \u201cWe are the people who could give them the facts, rather than basing all their opinion on the fantasists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elliot said Vote Leave campaign spending was in line with electoral rules \u2014 which set a limit of \u00a37 million for the two main campaign groups in the Brexit referendum \u2014 and that the campaign had submitted a 500-page rebuttal to the Electoral Commission on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey havent found a smoking gun,\u201d Elliot said. \u201cIf [the Electoral Commission] follow due process, if they are fair, they will find us innocent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/brexit-vote-leave-broke-campaign-spending-rules-report\/?utm_source=RSS_Feed&amp;utm_medium=RSS&amp;utm_campaign=RSS_Syndication\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Original Article<\/a><\/p>\n<p> [contf] [contfnew]         <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRMd3Tz2gX9xSa6CJyaOj2dokBVcrdaT4yY3R3RI7YmL18vCLZZ\"\/> <\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/&gt;Politico&lt;\/a&gt;&lt;\/h5&gt;_&lt;\/p&gt;[contfnewc]_[contfnewc]_&lt;\/body&gt;&lt;\/html&gt;\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The official Brexit campaign group Vote Leave faces a possib..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":84630,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[50],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-84629","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tech"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
