{"id":80384,"date":"2018-05-31T10:56:22","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T10:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/ftse-100-to-stagnate-over-rest-of-year-finds-investor-poll\/"},"modified":"2018-05-31T10:56:22","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T10:56:22","slug":"ftse-100-to-stagnate-over-rest-of-year-finds-investor-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/ftse-100-to-stagnate-over-rest-of-year-finds-investor-poll\/","title":{"rendered":"FTSE 100 to stagnate over rest of year finds investor poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/assets\/uploads\/main-image\/full_width_article_body_image\/britain-stocks-markets-ftse-613925498-5b0faecbe08a5.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Investment managers expect the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/ftse-100\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a> to remain almost flat by the end of the year as political negotiations give stocks a bumpy ride, according to a poll published today.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of more than 30 fund managers, brokers and analysts published today by <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.reuters.com\/article\/uk-britain-stocks-poll\/investors-see-ftse-100-hovering-short-of-a-new-record-reuters-poll-idUKKCN1IW06R?il=0\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Reuters <\/a>predicted London&#039;s blue-chip index will close the year at 7,800 points, a rise of less than two per cent from the index&#039;s level at the time of writing.<\/p>\n<p>The UK&#039;s benchmark index will lag behind the rest of Europe, represented by the Euro Stoxx 50, which respondents to the poll expected will rise by over five per cent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/286109\/ftse-100-hits-record-high-fears-trump-trade-war-wane\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100 hits record high as fears of Trump trade war wane<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The FTSE 100 hit its latest record close only this month, as investors greeted signs that the US may not pursue restrictive trade measures.<\/p>\n<p>However, the run-up to the UK&#039;s formal exit from the EU in March 2019 and the transition period will hold back gains for big firms, the poll found, with a gain of only 100 points expected during the first six months of 2019 and then a retreat by the end of that year.<\/p>\n<p>Brexit formally takes place at the end of March 2019, with the UK then entering into a two-year transition period in which trading conditions are planned to remain mostly unchanged.<\/p>\n<p>However, during that period the UK will also be negotiating the longer-term deal with the EU. Sterling has been highly sensitive to the negotiations, with major implications for the multinationals which make up the FTSE 100.
