{"id":75912,"date":"2018-05-03T13:36:52","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T13:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/ftse-tumbles-after-wall-street-wobbles-and-asian-shares-slide\/"},"modified":"2018-05-03T13:36:52","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T13:36:52","slug":"ftse-tumbles-after-wall-street-wobbles-and-asian-shares-slide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/ftse-tumbles-after-wall-street-wobbles-and-asian-shares-slide\/","title":{"rendered":"FTSE tumbles after Wall Street wobbles and Asian shares slide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/assets\/uploads\/main-image\/full_width_article_body_image\/markets-nervous-amid-fears-79157874-5aeac2e61cec6.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/ftse-100\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a> slipped 0.3 per cent after the bell this morning, falling well below the 7550 levels it had reached earlier in the week, before rallying back towards 7540.<\/p>\n<p>Major European markets also fell in early trading with French CAC, Germanys DAX and the Spanish IBEX all falling over 0.20 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The FTSEs fall comes after a difficult day on Wall Street, with the Dow Jones closing at session lows after the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/federal-reserve\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Reserve<\/a> hinted at higher inflation, and reports that US President <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/people\/donald-trump\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> is planning to restrict Chinese telecom companies from selling equipment in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/285040\/markets-await-trumps-deals-\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Markets await Trump&#039;s deals<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The US central bank did not raise interest rates, keeping them steady at 1.50-1.75 per cent. However, it did say that it expects inflation to run closer to its two per cent target in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>The Dow Jones closed 174.07 points down, while the S&amp;P 500 fell 0.7 per cent, to 2,635.67. Falling shares in tech companies like Tesla, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/company\/spotify\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Spotify<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/285160\/shares-snapchat-creator-snap-inc-fall-all-time-low\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Snap Inc<\/a> also dragged the Nasdaq index down 29 points to 7,100.90.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more<\/strong>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/285160\/shares-snapchat-creator-snap-inc-fall-all-time-low\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Shares in Snapchat creator Snap Inc fall to all-time low<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cUS inflation fears have spread globally and Europe looks set for a lower open on Thursday,\u201d said Japser Lawler, head of research at London Capital Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that the Fed were not so bold about a June rate hike initially disappointed the market, pulling the dollar lower. However, it quickly recovered pushing the dollar back up almost to pre FOMC levels whilst higher yields weighed on US equities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overnight, Asian shares also dipped with the MSCI Asia-Pacific index falling 0.5 percent, while South Korean stocks eased 0.4 percent.
