{"id":72219,"date":"2018-04-13T15:46:54","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T15:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/brussels-wants-to-hear-from-zuckerberg-says-eu-justice-chief\/"},"modified":"2018-04-13T15:46:54","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T15:46:54","slug":"brussels-wants-to-hear-from-zuckerberg-says-eu-justice-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/brussels-wants-to-hear-from-zuckerberg-says-eu-justice-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Brussels wants to hear from Zuckerberg, says EU justice chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EU Justice Commissioner V\u011bra Jourov\u00e1 said Facebook should send its CEO over to Brussels to rebuild trust in Europe, after revelations that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/facebook-cambridge-analytica-jourova-2-7-million-data-protection-privacy\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">2.7 million Europeans<\/a> were caught in the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you want to renew the trust in Europe, it is only reasonable that Mark Zuckerberg comes to Brussels,\u201d Jourov\u00e1 told a crowd in Brussels at a POLITICO breakfast event today. \u201cI think it would be good if we hear it directly from him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Jourov\u00e1 stressed her request for Zuckerberg, who faced a grilling in U.S. Congress this week over his companys handling of data, to come to Brussels in a phone call with Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook, Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook, among other things, is under fire for gathering data on non-Facebook users through tracking software. When asked whether she thinks such practices are compliant with EU law, Jourov\u00e1 said: \u201cNot so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Companies worldwide are preparing for the entry into force of the EUs privacy law, the General Data Protection Regulation. Facebook previously suggested they would introduce GDPR-like measures for users across the world to protect their data.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGDPR gives [Europeans] strong power to remain the masters of their privacy and data,\u201d Jourov\u00e1 said, adding Zuckerberg could \u201cstart to understand this if he comes here and hears it from the Europeans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament previously called on Zuckerberg to testify.
