This follows a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/283602\/shares-oleg-deripaskas-rusal-and-plunge-us-sanctions\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">four per cent drop yesterday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Russian stock markets were down too, with Moscow&#039;s dollar-denominated RTS index sliding 4.22 per cent to 1,048.73 after tumbling more than 11 per cent yesterday and the rouble-denominated Moex edging down 0.22 per cent to 113.75.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/assets\/uploads\/content\/2018\/04\/russian-rouble-slumps-against-us-dollar-00176-chartbuilder-5acc74d442c7a.png\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Shares in Rusal, Russian aluminium tycoon Oleg Deripaska&#039;s firm, dropped more than seven per cent today after halving yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>Glencore today announced its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/283672\/glencore-boss-ivan-glasenberg-resigns-rusals-board-amid\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">chief executive will step down from Rusal&#039;s board<\/a> and it will cancel a deal to swap its shares in Rusal for shares in En+, which is dual-listed in London and Moscow. <\/p>\n<h2>Global markets boosted by Xi<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, other financial markets around the globe were boosted by China&#039;s President Xi Jinping&#039;s comments that the country <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/283666\/asian-markets-rally-xi-jinping-calms-fears-over-china-us\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">will look to widen market access for foreign investors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asian markets rallied with MSCI&#039;s broadest index of Asia-Pacific markets outside Japan lifted about 0.7 per cent and Japan&#039;s Nikkei rose about 0.5 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Closer to home, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/283683\/european-stocks-jump-after-xi-jinping-soothes-fears-us\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">European markets also jumped<\/a>. The UK&#039;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityam.com\/ftse-100\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">FTSE 100<\/a> index was up 0.31 per cent at 7,217.15.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blockads.fivefilters.org\/acceptable.html\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Russian rouble is still sliding after a fresh round of U..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":71541,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[202],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-71540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-finance"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
