Absolutely,\u201d said Cambridge Analytica co-founder Christopher Wylie when asked if the number could be greater than 87 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of how many people had access to the Facebook data or derivatives of that data, I couldnt tell you because it was a lot of people,\u201d Wylie told NBC News \u201cMeet the Press\u201d moderator Chuck Todd in an interview that will air Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Facebook reported earlier this week that Cambridge Analytica obtained access to 37 million more user profiles than the 50 million originally reported. CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/what-mark-zuckerberg-needs-to-know-when-he-heads-to-congress-facebook-cambridge-analytica\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">will be testifying<\/a> before Congress next week.<\/p>\n<p>Wylie was one of the main sources in the bombshell New York Times and Observer of London <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/report-trump-linked-firm-exploited-data-on-50-million-facebook-users\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">investigation<\/a> that found that Cambridge Analytica had obtained information on tens of millions of Facebook users through an academic researcher, a method that violated Facebooks term of service. But the data firm \u2014 which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/pro\/cambridge-analytica-boasts-of-dirty-tricks-to-swing-elections\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">boasted of its ability<\/a> to extrapolate personality types from user data and target Facebook feeds with specifically tailored ads \u2014 never deleted the data once Facebook discovered the violation in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In his \u201cMeet the Press\u201d interview, Wylie says the data \u201ccould be stored in various parts of the world, including Russia.\u201d He added that \u201cits not water-tight to say that we can ensure that all the data is gone forever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cambridge Analytica did work for President Donald Trumps campaign, but the White House has downplayed those efforts.
