NEW DELHI: The BSE Midcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex<\/a> in Tuesday's trade. <\/p>\n

Around 10:40 hours, the BSE Midcap index was 0.80 per cent up at 16,237, while the BSE Sensex was 0.38 per cent up at 34,047. The NSE Nifty50 was 0.44 per cent up at 10,467. <\/p>\n

Shares of Bank of India (up 9.78 per cent), Union Bank of India (up 5.42 per cent), Muthoot Finance (up 4.68 per cent), NBCC (India) (up 4.44 per cent), Oberoi Realty (up 3.57 per cent), Indian Bank (up 3.27 per cent), Indian Hotels Company<\/a> (up 3.15 per cent), Canara Bank (up 3.12 per cent) and Endurance Technologies (up 3.08 per cent) were among the top gainers in the midcap index. <\/p>\n

On the contrary, Adani Enterprises<\/a> (down 1.26 per cent), Biocon (down 1.24 per cent), Procter & Gamble Hygiene & Healthcare (down 1.19 per cent), Central Bank of India (down 0.80 per cent), Shriram City Union Finance<\/a> (down 0.65 per cent), Ashok Leyland (down 0.65 per cent) and Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (down 0.64 per cent) were among the top losers in the midcap index. <\/p>\n

Positive macroeconomic data and appreciating rupee, coupled with gains in bank, financial and oil stocks lifted Sensex and Nifty up. <\/p>\n

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 38 were trading in the green, while 12 were in the red. <\/p>\n

Shares of Axis Bank<\/a>, State Bank of India and Wipro were gaining over 2 per cent in the Sensex index. <\/p>\n

However, shares of Tata Consultancy Services<\/a> cracked nearly 5 per cent in the Sensex index. <\/p>\n
