{"id":62807,"date":"2018-02-08T15:13:02","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T15:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/philip-hammond-to-boris-johnson-no-brexit-dividend-for-nhs-15\/"},"modified":"2018-02-08T15:13:02","modified_gmt":"2018-02-08T15:13:02","slug":"philip-hammond-to-boris-johnson-no-brexit-dividend-for-nhs-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/philip-hammond-to-boris-johnson-no-brexit-dividend-for-nhs-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Philip Hammond to Boris Johnson: No Brexit dividend for NHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>U.K. Chancellor Philip Hammond dismissed the idea that the National Health Service (NHS) will be given a \u201cBrexit dividend,\u201d despite reports that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson will press for it at a Cabinet meeting this morning, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2018\/jan\/23\/hammond-dismisses-johnsons-talk-of-post-brexit-nhs-dividend\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, Mr. Johnson is the foreign secretary,\u201d Hammond told reporters in Brussels ahead of a EU finance ministers meeting this morning. \u201cI gave the health secretary [Jeremy Hunt] an extra \u00a36 billion in the recent budget and we will look at departmental allocations again at the spending review when that takes place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the [Brexit] negotiations that are going on there is a degree of uncertainty about our future direction and arrangements for trading with our European partners and that is bound to have an impact on thinking about the economy,\u201d he said, referring to the International Monetary Fund\u2019s decision to downgrade the U.K. growth forecast in 2019 from 1.6 percent to 1.5 percent.<\/p>\n<p>During a planned discussion of the NHS\u2019s recent performance today, Johnson is expected to ask Prime Minister Theresa May for an extra \u00a3100 million a week in funding. During the referendum campaign, he and other Leave campaigners promised that Brexit would free up \u00a3350 million a week for the NHS.
