{"id":28471,"date":"2017-12-08T09:32:37","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T09:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/european-data-watchdogs-go-after-uber-5\/"},"modified":"2017-12-08T09:32:37","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T09:32:37","slug":"european-data-watchdogs-go-after-uber-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bnreport.com\/en\/european-data-watchdogs-go-after-uber-5\/","title":{"rendered":"European data watchdogs go after Uber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The group of European data protection authorities said today they set up a task force to probe ride-sharing company Uber.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called Article 29 Working Party <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/newsroom\/just\/item-detail.cfm?item_id=50083\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">said on its website<\/a> it \u201cestablished a taskforce on the UBER data breach case,\u201d led by the Dutch data protection authority that will include members of the French, Italian, Spanish, Belgian, German and British authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Uber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/uber-reveals-yearlong-cover-up-of-major-data-breach\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">last week revealed<\/a> a massive data breach that occurred over a year ago but never came to light because the company conspired to keep it hidden.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the authorities met in Brussels today to go over information Uber provided since the breach became public.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier today, the British Information Commissioner\u2019s Office said about 2.7 million user accounts in the U.K. were affected. \u201cOn its own, this information is unlikely to pose a direct threat to citizens.
