Back then, the European Commission concluded that Intel had engaged in two specific illicit practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first involved providing concealed or partial rebates to computer manufacturers on the condition that they procured the majority of their x86 CPUs exclusively from Intel (conditional rebates).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The second involved Intel paying manufacturers to delay, limit, or cancel the launch of products containing x86 CPUs from rivals.<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Antitrust Battle Resurfaces<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a significant development in 2022, the European Court of Justice overturned the 2009 Commission decision concerning Intel\u2019s rebate practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the court reaffirmed that Intel\u2019s naked restriction practices did constitute a violation of EU rules.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Crucially, the court\u2019s judgment annulled the \u20ac1.06 billion fine in its entirety in 2022 due to the impossibility of pinpointing specifics with the naked restrictions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In response, the EU said Intel had not contested the 2022 ruling that affirmed the illegality of these restrictions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thereby, it enabled the EU to levy a reduced fine of \u20ac376.36 million based on these particular breaches.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Intel Breached EU Competition Rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIntel paid its customers to limit, delay or cancel the sale of products containing computer chips of its main rival,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/commissioners.ec.europa.eu\/didier-reynders_en\">Didier Reynders<\/a>, the Commissioner responsible for EU competition policy. \u201cThis is illegal under our competition rules.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reynders stressed that the EC decision showcases its commitment to ensuring antitrust violations do not go unpunished.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As of now, Intel has not issued an immediate response to requests for comment on this matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BNR \u2013 The European Commission has fined Intel nearly \u20ac376.36 million for infringing antitrust regulations within the computer chips market.
