As a result, the business will pay a total of $25 million to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/\">US Federal Trade Commission<\/a> (FTC). It was discovered that the company has stored sensitive data for several years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amazon\u2019s Ring doorbell camera will also pay out,\u00a0as\u00a0workers have had\u00a0free access to consumers\u2019 data. According to a request in federal court in the District of Columbia, Ring will pay $5.8 million to authorities.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Amazon Data Retention Against Customers&#8217; Requests<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amazon consistently and explicitly told its customers, including parents, that they could erase the system\u2019s audio recordings. This information is according to the FTC\u2019s complaint regarding Alexa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the company did not erase such recordings. According to the complaint, they retained data for many\u00a0years and utilised it illegally to assist enhance the\u00a0Alexa algorithm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement, FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Samuel Levine accused Amazon of \u201cmisleading parents.\u201d He stressed that the corporation preserved children\u2019s recordings indefinitely\u00a0and ignored deletion requests from parents. He went on to say that the firm compromised privacy for revenue.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Ring Staff Breach Privacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, The FTC claimed that Ring permitted thousands of staff\u00a0and contractors to view\u00a0footage of customers\u2019 private places. Amazon bought Ring in 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The FTC stated that Ring staff\u00a0were able to watch\u00a0and obtain sensitive video data of\u00a0customers for their own reasons. One employee, according to the lawsuit, saw hundreds of footage involving female users.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The footage originated from Ring cameras that monitored private areas of the women\u2019s houses, such as their toilets and bedrooms. The employee had only ceased after a co-worker noticed their actions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRing\u2019s disregard for privacy and security exposed consumers to spying and harassment,\u201d Levine said. \u201cThe FTC\u2019s order makes clear that putting profit over privacy doesn\u2019t pay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Amazon disputed the FTC\u2019s allegations about Alexa and Ring and denied breaching the law.
